The strategy model of Treacy & Wiersema claims that, in any sector, in order to become a market leader you need to excel in one of 3 dimensions only:
- Operational Excellence
- Product Leadership
- Customer Intimacy
If you don’t make a choice, competitors will soon outperform you by focusing on one of the dimensions above.
A good way to start a debate in your company is to use this exercise to reveal your own strategic positioning. If the choice is clear to everyone, you will notice similar results. if not, this means that your strategy is not clear.
In the end, you will get a graph that summarizes all answers and reveals if the company strategy is clear to everyone involved. If not, this exercise will be an eye-opener and provide the opportunity to further discuss and align on what your company strategy should be.
